Make sure your rug is large enough for your space. Calculating the size of an area rug can be confusing. I recommend that you measure the room first to get an idea of the space that the rug will take up. Some rugs are wider than they are long, so you might think that a 12×16 rug is going to fit perfectly into your space, but it might not. Measure where your furniture will be and make sure it will fit into the space, leaving enough room for additional furniture if necessary.
I like our rugs to fill the space for the best result, but not completely cover the floor! Keeping 12-18 inches between the rug and the wall does the trick. Here are the standard rug sizes:
2x3, 2x4, 2x5, 3x5, 4x6, 5×8, 6×9, 7×10, 8×10 and 9×12.
Also, note that the price goes up as the size of the rug grows. If you're not sure what size to get for a certain area, please reach out to me.
